2021 Southwest Education Series: Novice Home Care Coding 101 & Application of Coding Guidelines to Hospice

This workshop is the first event in the 2021 Southwest Virtual Education Series collaborative.

This 4-hour course is designed as a general introduction to the rapidly growing field of Home Care & Hospice Coding.  With the use a lecture format along with hands-on coding examples, the attendees will learn the basics of the ICD-10 CM Guidelines and Conventions along with an overview of how to apply these basics through a body systems approach to coding. 

This workshop has been approved for three (3) HCS-D (Home Health) or HCS-H (Hospice) CEUs from BMSC for attendees that successfully participate in the LIVE version of the program (participants will be required to sign-in and out of the program and complete an evaluation form). 

Learning Objectives:

  1. Develop an understanding of the ICD-10 Conventions and Guidelines
  2. Interpret who is responsible for applying and assigning diagnosis codes
  3. Understand where the ICD-10 classification system came from and why proper coding is important

Speaker:

 

Nanette Minton, RN, CHPCA, HCS-D, HCS-H has been in home care since 1997.  She has served in a variety of roles including clinical, administrative, consulting, education, and agency startup & development. Currently serving as the Senior Clinical Coding Manager for MAC Legacy, Nanette provides day to day coding and quality support to the home care and hospice agencies receiving coding services. Nanette’s experience in the industry gives her a unique perspective and allows her to provide coding and audit knowledge firsthand to clients.
