Home Care Therapy WorkshopThursday, February 24, 2022 | 12:45pm - 4:00pm MT This special 1/2-day workshop is designed for therapists (PT/PTA, OT/OTA) providing care in the home-based setting. Administrators, Clinical Directors/Supervisors and QA staff will also find the content relevant and valuable. 3.0 hours of Continuing Education for Therapists will be available for PTs, PTAs, OTs and OTAs. About the Presenter: Karen Vance, BSOT, retired from BKD Health Care Group in 2003. Since then, she has been delivering clinical and consulting services to help home care providers with quality management practices. With home care experience since 1981 as a provider, clinical and regulatory manger, Karen has presented home care seminars since 1988 for national, state and regional health care associations. Fit Not Frail: Improving Outcomes for Older Adults in Home Health (2:00 - 3:00 p.m.) In this session presented by Silke Mildenberger, PTA, participants will review the characteristics of aging; discuss the Principles of Self-Efficacy as it relates to therapy, review the latest research and discuss Treatment Approaches to improve outcomes for older adults receiving home health care. About the Presenter: Silke Mildenberger, PTA is a Physical Therapy Assistant with Bayada Home Health in Tucson, Arizona. She earned her Associate of Occupational Science degree from Pima Medical Institute and has been licensed as a PTA since 2012 in the United States. Her clinical experience includes neuro-pediatrics, out-patient orthopedics with the most recent 5 years focused on therapy in the home health setting. Interdisciplinary Approach to Safety and Function in Home Care for People with Dementia (3:00 - 4:00 p.m.) No setting is more impactful for dementia care than the home! In this session presented by Carrie Ciro, PhD, OTR/L, FAOTA, participants will explore an interdisciplinary approach to safety and function that maximizes “best” performance in everyday living for people with dementia (PwD). We will explore evaluation strategies that focus on meaningful and purposeful goals for the client and the caregiver. Interventions will focus on assistive technology and appropriate training strategies for people across the spectrum and severity of dementia. About the Presenter: Carrie Ciro, PhD, OTR/L, FAOTA is the Elam Plowman Chair of Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. Dr. Ciro has worked in dementia care and research for the last 12 years. She has completed funded research examining the Skill-building through Task Oriented Motor Practice (STOMP) intervention for recovering and maintaining ADL in people with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias and has spoken nationally and internationally on dementia care. Previous clinical experience in home health, skilled nursing and outpatient therapy over the course of 30 years informs her teaching and research. Continuing Education3.0 hours Continuing Education credit for PTs and OTs is being pursued for this program.
