Not a ‘Temporary Blip’: Home Health Agencies Gaining Greater Share of Hospital Discharges

"The anecdotal claims from home health insiders were true: Across the country, home health agencies gained a greater share of discharges from short-term acute care hospitals during the public health emergency.

Specifically, the percentage of patients discharged into home health care rose 1.8% from March to May of 2020, from 17% to 18.8%. That would mean, theoretically, that over 10,000 more patients went to home health agencies in May than they would have otherwise."

Douglas County Explores Vaccinating HHA Clients; Please Take Survey

Douglas County is exploring the possibility of providing COVID19 vaccines to Douglas County residents who are served by home health agencies. This will be dependent on vaccine availability and the capability of the home health agency to work directly with nurses hired by the county to dispense vaccinations.

The county anticipates the process will include the home health agency obtaining consent and documentation and providing scheduling details of upcoming visits to the county hired nurse can accompany/meet home health at the home and give the vaccination. Clients must fit in the current vaccine eligibility guidelines issued by the State of Colorado.

The county is asking qualifying agencies to take this survey.

 

The Denver Hospice Expands Pediatric Program, Builds New Center

The Denver Hospice in Colorado recently expanded its Footprint Children’s Services pediatric program, including construction of a new support center.

The Denver Hospice provides hospice and palliative care throughout nine Colorado counties. Through its Footprints Children’s Services program, the hospice has been serving pediatric patients and their families for 30 years with hospice, palliative, concurrent, respite and bereavement care. Growth of services like these are continuing to grow in the Denver metropolitan area at a predicted rate of 7% annually, according to Melinda Egging, president of The Denver Hospice.

Pikes Peak Hospice & Palliative Care Names Dawn Darvalics President

Pikes Peak Hospice & Palliative Care has named Dawn Darvalics, M.S., PMP, as president of the organization effective Nov. 16, 2020.

Darvalics joins Pikes Peak Hospice & Palliative Care as a senior-level healthcare executive with more than 18 years of experience in hospice and palliative care. In addition, Darvalics’ career includes working for national healthcare providers and internationally recognized consulting firms KPMG and Arthur Anderson.

“The Pikes Peak Hospice and Palliative Care Board and the Pikes Peak Hospice Foundation are excited to welcome Ms. Darvalics as president,” stated Brian Wagner, board chair for the organization. “Dawn brings a wealth of experience and knowledge in the care for individuals with advanced illnesses, which will be a tremendous benefit to the patients, families, and the communities we serve.”
